Blue sky (04.14.2024)
Updated: May 18
The sky is blue,
The pond moves in response to the touch of the wind,
Creating ripples and waves above the surface
Across from me, past the plants that are still beige from the winter snow,
A crane stands pretty.
Another one of the Fathers wondrous creatures,
He stands out in contrasting gray against the beige, brown, and faint green landscape
I’m too far away to get a good picture
But I know in my memories
This will stay, another snapshot of God’s amazing artwork
A crow stands on a lamppost
Crying out
Maybe in protest
Or maybe this is how he worships God
I am interrupted by a beautiful sort of chirping from above
Two white birds chase each other, wings stretched, flapping and singing away until I can no longer see them
Then the winds dies down and I’m back to admiring the beautiful bird across the pond
When two ducks make their way past the crane, a mallard and a brown female, I wonder if they said hi to one another in a language I don’t understand
A seagull gently lands on the water and floats alone vocalizing in another language I don’t know, when another does the same, wings spread out and gently landing on the surface of the dark blue water
A second crow lands on the lamppost beside me, cawing the same as the first,
Slightly interrupting the worship song blaring through my headphones,
I am reminded that we are all part of Gods creation
And maybe as we all sit here, alive, enjoying the same plants and landscape,
That this in itself is a form of worship
All coming together, separately,
Unable to communicate to one another
But each worshiping God the only way we know how
The sky is blue
I am writing again
And I’m starting to think these birds are worshipping too.
